🟣 There is lots of exciting news to report for the Villapol lab in 2021: new projects, funding, publications, team members, and even a new lab location!

Β
πŸ† Notably, we have established a collaboration and obtained a grant from the Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency (DARPA) with the Department of Bioengineering at Rice University to study the first biological responders to brain injury!
Β
πŸ† We have also secured two new grants to study Alzheimer’s disease in collaboration with the Houston Methodist Department of Nanomedicine and with Baylor College of Medicine.
Β
πŸ† Finally, our projects have led to the study of Nanomedicine for drug delivery into brain injury thanks to a Research Award obtained from Mission Connect (TIRR Foundation).
Β
πŸ† Overall, we have established a very powerful line of research that combines nanomedicine and neuroscience. For this effort, our publication on nanoparticles was awarded for the Houston Methodist Academic Institute with the Award πŸ₯‡ for Excellence in Peer-Reviewed Publication.
Β
In large part, this success is thanks to our fabulous team:

πŸ‘©β€πŸ”¬ Dr. Sirena Soriano (Postdoctoral researcher)
πŸ‘©β€πŸ”¬ Hannah Flinn (Research Assistant)
Β
πŸ§ͺ Also, we have been fortunate to have in our lab amazing undergraduate students from Texas A&M University, University of Houston, and Rice University:
πŸ₯‡ Kristen Curry,
πŸ₯‡ Maria Wang,
πŸ₯‡ Serena Wang,
πŸ₯‡ Pranjal Sheth,
πŸ₯‡ Elsbeth Chow,
πŸ₯‡ Eric Wang,
πŸ₯‡ Donovan Butler.
Β
πŸ™ Thanks to their hard work and effort, we have published thirteen scientific articles and presented our work at sixteen conferences and congresses this year alone!
